The One You Can’t Forget
Wu hadn’t expected to see her again. Not really.
People came and went—especially in his world. Even the ones who mattered, the ones who left their marks, had a way of fading into the past. That was just life. He had made his peace with it. Or at least, he thought he had.
But then there she was.
It had been years since he’d last seen Scarlett—Lettie, as he had always called her. A lifetime ago, when things were simpler. When they were just kids running through the streets, chasing trouble, daring each other to do the stupidest things just for the thrill of it.
And now? Now, she was standing in front of him, looking at him like she couldn’t quite believe he was real.
At first, there was just silence. A long, heavy pause where they just took each other in, both of them different, older, shaped by things neither of them had been there to witness. Wu had changed. So had she. But something about her—her eyes, that smirk, the way she carried herself—felt the same.
He huffed out a quiet laugh, shaking his head. "Didn’t think I’d ever see you again."
Lettie tilted her head, that familiar glint of mischief flickering in her gaze. "Yeah?" she mused, stepping just a little closer. "I always figured I’d run into you again—sooner or later. Can’t shake me that easily, Wu."
And just like that, it was like no time had passed at all.
They talked—about old times, about everything and nothing. About the nights they spent sneaking out, the trouble they used to get into, the stupid promises they made as kids. But beneath it all, there was something heavier. An unspoken you left hanging between them.
Wu had always been good at moving forward, at letting the past stay where it belonged. But with her, it wasn’t that simple.
Because for the first time in a long time, the past didn’t feel so far away. And he wasn’t sure he wanted to leave it behind.
