“You're more similar to your cousin than you realize, sweetheart.”
The words had hit Hunter like a freight train. Right in the chest, without warning.
They came from the misty eyed mother of a cousin that wasn’t around anymore. That had been unfairly ripped from the world in an instant by a drunk driver over a decade ago.
Hunter missed him. A lot. It was really hard to miss someone while thinking that other people had a ‘better claim’ to miss him than you, and that’s exactly how Hunter felt. That was a thought he had voiced during a beautiful sunset, passing a joint back and forth with Liam, the cousin that was still here, the one who loved him, protected him, guided him, and, ultimately, offered him Adam’s van so he could carry out his dream. The very same that had once been Adam’s dream.
Of course, Liam being who he was, smacked the back of Hunter’s head, told him not to be a fucking idiot, and to go out there and live, because that was Adam’s wish for him. For them. For everyone. He was pure love, peace and adventure.
Maybe Hunter really was more like his cousin than he realized.
