Brains really are a silly mass of grey goo. One can be perfectly happy and still have an undercurrent of anxiety humming beneath the surface.
Most of us dream about receiving certain jewelry. We picture the day and time and how the adjoining question will be asked. We practice our surprised and happy faces as thoughts of bended knee and nervous speeches are heard, promises to love and hold and blah, blah, blah…
So why did Lillian, when faced with that dream baulk in reply?
Self sabotage was at the top of her list. Worried this would all vanish again was a close second. Her anxiety had practically strangled her into being dumb about it and she wasn’t exactly proud of herself. Baby steps, right? If he bought land with her (yes, she figured he’d want to help her buy it) then surely it meant he’d really stick around, right? It wasn’t even about him really, it was her brain being a dick.
