She poured herself a whiskey, watching the amber liquid swirl into the glass. No ice. Preferred the burn, the sharpness. Something about it kept her going in moments like this. The quiet around her was far too loud for her liking. Normally, there'd be music, people, laughter — anything to keep her from falling too deep into her own thoughts. But tonight, none of it was there and she hated the way her mind spiraled in the silence.
Her gaze fell to the empty glass in her hand and, for a moment, she almost laughed. What was it she was even trying to drown out? Life was good, wasn't it? She had people, stories, moments worth holding onto. But the thought lingered stubbornly, asking her if any of it truly mattered. With a sigh, she poured another drink, the motion came almost automatically, familiar.
Maybe, for just a little while, she'd let herself sit in the quiet, even if she hated every second of it.
