Why should I care...
Lynn held the gift box she had wrapped tightly with a beautiful ribbon. Yes… it was a gift she had secretly prepared for him. But for some reason, she never gave it to him. No time? She forgot? Caught up in life? Maybe she was waiting for the right moment. Maybe they were just friends…?
The moment she finally decided to give it to him, she discovered the truth, he was with someone else. And it was more than just a kiss.
Without even realizing it, she crumpled the gift, her nails digging into the box. She still couldn’t believe it.
She tossed the gift onto her seat in the plane and bit her lip, trying to steady herself as she looked in the mirror.
"Why do I bother? Why do I care? What the hell have I been doing? Why have I been so careful with myself? And what the hell am I even wearing?"
Click! The sound of unlocking.
"I'm released from the snuggle stopper at last!"
"Fine… I guess this is it. I won’t stay bound to ‘that promise’ anymore. I’m not the only one."
Later, she bought herself a bouquet of flowers, just to cheer herself up, and to celebrate a new chapter in her life. She could be anything she wanted now.
