sto pensando a te

The past four years had been hell, but Alex had endured it like he endured everything else in life—with silence. He’d lived off rationed food, carried gear so heavy it left his shoulders permanently aching, and trained before the sunrise. His days were a blur of runs, drills, and the deafening noise of gunfire. It was easier to be alone. Solitude didn’t betray him.

But those years of discipline didn’t go unnoticed. The upper brass saw something in him. He wasn’t just a soldier; he was a weapon. And this weapon belonged in special ops. When the orders came, they were delivered in the form of a slim dossier. The Romano family. Inside were black-and-white photographs, detailed profiles, and the single most important directive: the head of the Romano empire needed to go down.

The agent in charge had been clear: “We want his head on a spike. A warning to everyone else.” To get to him, Alex would have to go through her—the daughter. The capo’s pride and joy, the one person he loved more than his empire. She was untouchable in the family’s inner circle. If Alex could get close to her, use her, the mission would all but complete itself. It was simple. At least, that’s what they told him.

But Alex had learned long ago that nothing about life, or war, was ever simple. The plan backfired almost from the start. She wasn’t the spoiled, naïve woman he’d expected. She was impossibly warm in a way that made him forget the cold, brutal world. She saw through him.

Somewhere along the way, the mission blurred. Alex didn’t want to use her anymore. He wanted to protect her. Cherish her. Love her. She became his new purpose, something worth more than any cause he’d ever fought for.

He spent his days shelving novels and magazines. But every moment, he knew what his real job was. It wasn’t the library. It was her. She was his home now, and Alex would do whatever it took to keep her safe.
