Their first ultrasound had gone so smoothly that Niele and Levi had been on cloud nine ever since. Witnessing the tiny miracle growing inside her on the screen - a beautiful testament to the deep love she and Levi shared—was beyond her wildest dreams.
Niele had squeezed Levi's hand as tears of joy streamed down her cheeks, both mesmerised by the screen, as they watched their baby in pure awe. And when that little heartbeat suddenly echoed; Niele's heart had filled with the kind of love she couldn't have fathomed in a million years.
There had been, so much joy, such an overwhelming mix of emotions that day, that even their doctor, who had grown fond of the the two, had become overwhelmed - thus missing a crucial detail.
Niele and Levi had left the hospital with the sound of their baby's heartbeat still echoing in their ears while clutching a sonogram in hand, unable contain their happiness - nor did they want to.
However, as they arrived for their second ultrasound appointment, Niele still couldn't help feeling as anxious as she had during the first. She squeezed Levi's hand as she shivered from the cold gel applied to her belly, while smiling at her beloved - radiating like the sun, as anticipation took over. But that joy was suddenly shattered by words no expecting parent would want to hear:
"Oh, how did we miss that.."
Panic gripped Niele like a serpent, her heart threatening to stop under the weights of the words. The room began to spin, as she stared at her doctor wide eyed and pleading, "Miss what? Is something wrong with our baby??"
Which was why her doctors smile threw her off yet before Niele could utter another word, she heard the faint sound of another heartbeat, followed by her doctor’s reassuring words;
