The illness, part two
Mina's body was reacting to the treatment, but the cancer remained. They were fighting as best as they could, with all the tools they had in their disposal. And now it seemed they had to go elsewhere to find more tools. Dr Ashley at Royal had done his very best. Chemotherapy. Talks about surgery. Monitoring her condition the best he could. He was good. But they wanted the best.
And that's when her mother had pulled strings, using her connections to New York. At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center there was one Dr. Margaret “Maggie” Rowland who was running a program. They had done some interesting things, experimenting with genetically personalised drug treatment for difficult cases of cancer. Her mom had studied with Maggie, and it was done, Mina was in the program now.
Being back in New York wasn't bad at all. On better days Mina had some energy for little sightseeing. You had to love the view of the city from the top of Empire State Building. Mina tried to remain hopeful. Holding
Elyse's hand. Her rock. Oh Kobe did she love that woman so very much.
