[6] Lines That Blur

Istanbul had offered Nadia more than just influence; it had provided her with unexpected connections. She found herself drawn to someone she never anticipated. He was famous and powerful, and unlike most men she encountered, he intrigued Nadia. They spent late nights together, their conversations extending until dawn, with an undeniable tension hanging thick in the air. They weren’t just friends, yet they weren’t lovers either. What transpired between them was something friends typically didn’t do. The way he touched her, how she leaned in, and the way their breaths intertwined in the quiet of the night created a bond that felt dangerously close. Nadia found herself questioning their boundaries. The electricity between them was palpable, yet she refrained from crossing that line.. not yet.

Next year, Istanbul would be left behind; London was calling. Her Oxford interview was next month, and she wasn’t willing to take any risks. Some paperwork needed to be handled in person, so she booked a flight funded by selling one of her Prada purses. Her closet was the last remnant of her old life: purses from her mother’s collection, stilettos, designer suits, and some pieces from Nadia’s early teenage years. She didn’t keep them out of sentimentality; they were resources, and Nadia had no hesitation in using them wisely, wheter if its wearing them to look expensive or selling them for budget for the next step.

Oxford was in her blood, and she would do everything in her power to get through those gates without hesitation. It wasn’t just an acceptance letter to a university that she wanted; it was a tradition passed down from her father and generations before him. Now, it was Nadia's responsibility to uphold that legacy.
