City Offices
Here's a list of the different city offices available for players. A city official can either be elected by other players, or appointed by other city officials. To take one of these positions your character must meet the specific criteria listed for each office.
Mayor
The Mayor is elected by the People's Assembly every 4 game years. The Mayor is the highest office in the city, but s/he is not supreme. The Mayor can adjust taxes, laws and Building Regulations as well as some other things.
Chief of Police
The Chief of Police (CoP) controls the police force. S/he may appoint police officers who patrol the streets. The CoP can issue and withdraw arrest warrants for people; an arrest warrant must exist for an officer to be able to arrest someone.
The CoP will also have other authorities in the future, but these will not be fully implemented for a while. Important: No one (not even the Mayor) can currently remove the Chief of Police, who serves until his/her term is up, or until resignation.
This is to protect cities from becoming Dictatorships under a Mayor with too much power.
When there is no Chief of Police, the Deputy Chief of Police automatically steps in to succeed the CoP.
Deputy Chief of Police
This office has no actual power associated with it. The sole purpose of the office is to appoint the "heir" to the office of Chief of Police. The Deputy Chief of Police is appointed by the Mayor whenever the office is vacant.
Treasurer
The Treasurer is the name of the person who is President of the company that owns the public locales, such as hospitals, city hall, roads and so on.
This works very much like a regular company, but this company is owned by the city.
The Treasurer is appointed by the Mayor, and can be removed from the position by the Mayor at any time. The Mayor may appoint himself/herself if s/he wishes. Part of the job of the Treasurer involves making sure that money is transferred in and out of City Hall as needed by various locales throughout the city.
Once the term ends for the Treasurer he/she will stay as President of the company until a new Treasurer is appointed.
Vice Mayor
The Vice Mayor's role is to step into the office of Mayor should the Mayor leave the office for any reason. These reasons include the end of the Mayor's term before an election is complete, resignation, or the death of the Mayor.
Chief Justice
The Chief Justice is in charge of each city's Supreme Court and is responsible for determining how crime and convicted criminals should be treated.
