The fire station is extremely important to the well being of a city. Without a fully operational fire station cities won't be able to fight fires which can cause massive damage to a city or individual inhabitants.

Is there a fire out there? Jump in the uniform (the low paid job slot) and sound the alarm! (You have to be employed to be able to ring alarm.)
Interested in working as a fireman?
Apply for the job, the salary depends on your skills in fire fighting, if you don't have the skill, it will be taught to you.
If you are on tour or out of town for more than 2-3 months, you will be sacked because we need to have our fire fighters in town. But don't let this stop you, Even if you are in town just for a week don't be afraid to apply.
